Latin American countries adopt sweeping AI declaration

Representatives of 17 Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curaçao, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Suriname and Uruguay) have signed the Cartagena Declaration on AI governance. The declaration includes (1) adherence to UNESCO's ethics recommendations from the AI for Good Global Summit, (2) alignment with existing soft law instruments like the OECD's AI recommendations, and (3) continuation of similar AI initiatives previously signed in Montevideo and Santiago. The text of the declaration has yet to be publicly revealed.

Brazil and Paraguay sign agreement to improve health surveillance standards in Latin America

The agreement also lays the groundwork for future technical negotiations, emphasizing continuous information exchange and joint actions to promote regional development, underscoring the shared commitment to protecting public health without borders.
